What can we do in 2022?
Whenever we start a new year, people often set resolutions. There is nothing wrong with setting goals. As Christians, if we don’t set our sights on doing things for the Lord, you can be certain that we will fall short. Here are some things that we, as Christians, can aim to do if the Lord wills in 2022.
Continue to do what you have been doing as a…
Parent/Grandparent: When we want to bring our children up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord (Eph. 6:4), we cannot “take a year off.” Paul commended both Eunice and Lois for what they did for Timothy as a mother and grandmother (II Tim. 1:5-6), respectively. We must do this so let’s set some goals for 2022.
Member of the local church: There is so much that we will be able to do as the Lord grants us time. The sick and shut-ins will continue to need attending to (Matt. 25:34-45). Elders will need teachers for the kid and adult classes again this year (Heb. 5:12-14). Public duties like song leading, heading the table, and leading prayers will need to be filled every week (Matt. 25:14-30). Then, there is the list for cleaning the building and the list goes on and on. Let’s set some goals for 2022.
Helper in evangelism: There is so much for everyone to do when it comes to getting the gospel message out. The first thing that comes to mind is prayer. Pray for those seeking the truth, those on the correspondence course, those engaged in Bible studies, those receiving the weekly bulletin, those watching the TV program and those going to our website. Praying for doors to open is the key (Col. 3:3-4). Next, we can tell others about our church services so they can attend. We can inform people about our weekly TV program and offer the Bible course or a home Bible study (Mk. 16:15). We can join classes during the week to lend support in teaching the lost. Let’s set some goals for 2022.
Child of God: Personal growth needs to be a priority as a servant of Christ. This means, increasing in the knowledge and grace of our Lord (II Pet. 3:18). There must be goals and continued action in gathering for worship, preparing for Bible class and being engaged in our own personal Bible study (II Tim. 2:15). Our thirst for growing our faith must increase (Rom. 10:17). When there is a love for the words of truth, there will be a hatred for every false way (Psa. 119:97-104). Let’s set some goals for 2022.
A non-Christian: Knowing that all kinds of people read this bulletin; the biggest thing one can do in 2022 is to become a Christian. The previous points are of no use unless one has put off the old man and put on the new (Rom. 6:3-7). People keep putting off their need to be born again but there is no time like the present (II Cor. 6:2). If you are not a Christian, please set your goal on this and request a study now to reach that goal and do what you need to do in 2022.
A fallen member: Perhaps you are one who has been putting off the need to return to the Lord. Knowing that when you return, you will save your soul from spiritual death ought to motivate you to return (Jas. 5:19-20). With the uncertainty of life or when the Lord shall return, time is of the essence. There really is nothing greater for the fallen to do than to come back to the Lord.
Question: What goals will you set for the new year? Remember, to fail to plan, is to plan to fail.
